Comprehensive Carrier Screening

Clinical Labs offers a comprehensive test that involves screening up to 569 genes. This test is suitable for individuals of all ethnicities who seek an expanded assessment of their risk of having a child with a genetic condition. Our Comprehensive Carrier Screening test evaluates an individual’s carrier status for more than 100 inherited conditions.

Our Comprehensive Carrier Screening includes:
 

  • Screening for 100+ inherited conditions, including up to 569 genes

  • Severe and prevalent conditions seen across all ethnicities

  • Enhanced SMA testing to help identify silent carriers

  • All conditions recommended by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG)

  • An extended list of conditions recommended by national Jewish societies
  • X-linked conditions, including fragile X syndrome
  • Selection of conditions found on the newborn screening test

COST

The cost for our Comprehensive Carrier Screening test is $595 - no Medicare rebate is available. Partner testing is also $595. 

TESTING LOCATIONS
After you have had a discussion with your doctor about genetic carrier screening and have a referral, you can visit any of our 1,300 Clinical Labs collection centres located throughout Australia for your test; there is no need to book. We welcome and accept all pathology request forms. For locations, visit clinicallabs.com.au/location. 

RESULTS
Results for your Comprehensive Carrier Screening test will be with your referring doctor 3-6 weeks after the receipt of your blood sample at our laboratory.

GENETIC COUNSELLING
Positive cases are offered one genetic counselling session per couple at no cost, upon your doctor’s request.

Ashkenazi Jewish Carrier Screening

Ashkenazi Jewish Carrier Screening can determine whether you or your partner are carriers of any of the eight genetic conditions we test for, that are most common in people of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry. Being a carrier for one of these eight conditions does not impact your own health, but it may increase the likelihood of having a child affected by the condition.
